Trouble with a wine link

In order to best explain the need for my question I will have to tell you a little bit about my system and a little bit about my needs.

First off I'm running Slackware 10.2/current with kde 3.5.3. I'm dual booting with Windows XP.
I have 3 main partitions for my system. Linux is on an ext3 partition, windows is on an ntfs partition and I have one FAT32 partition so they can share files.

Second the need. My wife has this excel spreadsheet, now I'm the biggest advocate of OpenOffice.org however this spreadsheet is so big OpenOffice.org Calc can't seem to handle it without being ridiculously slow. Hence, I need to use Microsoft Excel for the project.

Now with sharing the partitions the way I do I'm perfectly content, however my wife would like to open the file in a neat little way. So I've decided to make short cuts for both. One on the linux desktop (I've installed Microsoft Office 2000 and am using wine) and one on the windows desktop (using Microsoft Office 2003).

My Problem.

I've created a KDE Shortcut that reads like this on the application line:
wine '/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office/EXCEL.EXE' '/mnt\hd\filename.xls'

The good news is that this shortcut opens excel and the file just fine with one exception. It immediately closes back up. I never even get a second to work on or edit the file. Help!!!

And for those of you who are curious. Excel will open the file from it's open menu with the mouse.
