Trouble Reading Newgroups

I'm having a bit of trouble setting up my newsgroup reader. Firs, is there any texbased newsgroup reader someone would suggest? Currently I'm trying to set up trn but I'm not making any progress.
When I run trn i get this error

Code: Unknown host.
News server unavailable, try again later.
I have looked everywhere for the .newsrc file but I can not find it at all. How can I edit the configuration to point to my news reading server? This is such a headache.

By the way I'm useing Slackware 10.0

Those in the know swear by slrn.
news.rc will need to be created by the news reader. slrn comes with slack so:

man slrn

will tell you what you need to know.

I wish I could be of more help, but I use pan and am quite happy with it.
It's not CLI tho.
