Trouble playing video files under Suse 8.2
just installed Suse 8.2. Used to run Redhat only. And so far I have been having trouble playing .mpg .mpeg .avi, etc. I have tried using mplayer, kmplayer, xine, real player. All of them with no luck. Can someone help?!?!?

It would be a lot easier to troubleshoot if you could tell us what error messages you get (if any).

I don't get any error messages, thats the crazy thing. for example in kmplayer it says at the bottom of the window "opening file" but the screen stays blank and then it says "ready". Thats about all I can say. I neve had the trouble in RH, it just worked.

No I just get a black screen with no sound, in all media players, not just mplayer.

i think for avi's, mpegs you need divx. for stuff like wmv, mov you need to install the codecs from mplayer's site. i'm not sure if you need to recompile/reinstall mplayer with quicktime/wmv support.
