trouble logging in into Linux Redhat 6.0

I'm a beginner at using Linux software and recently installed Linux redhat onto my PC. I managed to install the software and upon restarting it required me to enter a login name and password. However, during installation I did not enter any default values for these entries. Could anybody help me on this? Thanks in advance.

can i suggest that before you go any further, unless you _have_ to use redhat 6, that you download redhat 9. 6 is a very outdated version indeed. using 9, the installation guide will ask you to enter a password and any other users you want to add and their respective passwords.

I repeat what i said; download redhat 9 for an easier life especially as a newbee.

You have a root account, which has username "root" and either a password you set during installation (it probably called it "root password" or "system password" or something), or no password at all (just hit enter).

To create a new user, use adduser or useradd. To change the password for your current account, use passwd.

I agree with Frustin on the version of Linux... if you can use something newer than RH 6.0, it's probably a good idea... you'll have all sorts of problems installing new software on an old distro...
