trouble installing Skype

I am a brand new Linux user (I am used to Windows). I have a Acer Aspire One Notebook with OS: Linpus Linux Lite V1.0.9.E. I downloaded Skype for Linux, the Fedora version. It said the download was successful. When I find the folder, and I try to open it, I get a message that says "could not open folder as Nautilus File Manager is not running". Can anyone help me with getting Skype up and running. I do not know that Fedora is the right version for me - I do not know how to find out what distribution is installed on the unit.

What kind of file extension is it? Natulius is designed to view folders, not run programs. I am a debian user, so rpm files are not my thing, but if it is an rpm, the command probably looks something lite this.
Code:
cd /(directory where the file is)
rpm -i filename
Like I said, I am not a Red-hat based user. You will have to check me on the syntax, but type that into the command line interface.

First, did you download the rpm for Fedora 7 or Fedora Core 6? You want the Fedora 7 version.

Second, did you open the Downloads folder and opened the rpm from there? When you download the rpm Firefox asks how you want to handle the file. Choose the save file option. After downloading Skype navigate to your Downloads folder, double click the rpm and follow along with the wizard. Linpus will tell you that things can't be verified just keep clicking through.

This Register article explains how to install Skype and how to get the icon to show up on the desktop.

It is the guide I used and I had no problem getting Skype to run.

Good luck.

Thanks Roninchef - did everything you said and used the link which had great step by step information for a Acer One newbie like me. Thanks so much. I am now up and running and happy!
