Trouble installing QuickTime

Hello,

I try to install QuickTime plugin for Firefox.

How do you achieve this?

I want to watch videos on Apple's website and all videos there complain that my Firefox on Ubuntu 9.04 does not have QuickTime.

Thanks!

Thank you for the tip and I have followed the instructions there and it has installed a package called ubuntu-restricted-extras. I have restarted Firefox and tried watching the Quicktime video and... it hasn't played the video, instead gave the same message again: "Get QuickTime"

I wonder if Quicktime is playable on Linux at all. Can any of you play QuickTime videos on your version of Linux?

I thought that Linux uses programs other than QuickTime to play .mov videos.

Yes. I wasn't sure at first but Totem for instance plays .mov videos fine.

The solutions is to go here and look at the section labeled
Quote:
Playing Non-Native Media Formats
There you will learn about how to install w32codecs package and enable Medibuntu repositories which you'll find useful for future tasks.

Technically, All the video players on Linux should be able to play .mov extension, unless the right codec is installed.

Thank you again for your helps and comments.

I've downloaded each and every software depicted at

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...Formats/#Video

and

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

but still Firefox is unable to play the QT video at

http://www.apple.com/ipad/gallery/#ad

I wonder if you 're able to watch this video at http://www.apple.com/ipad/gallery/#ad in Firefox on Linux. I can't.

That's true. I can't get it to play. It seems that under the link hides a little complicated dynamic javascript so there is no sourcefile with the .mov extension that would launch a firefox plugin...
It's interesting how much is this related to Linux or just the browser.
Maybe watching how the link acts on Windows would be helpful..
To aurora72 : You will surely find this movie on youtube and similar sites. The question remains however..
