Trouble installing OpenOffice

Hi there,

I am relatively new to using Linux and am trying to install OpenOffice on my machine. I downloaded the latest .tar.gz file from the OpenOffice website then typed gunzip filename.tar.gz. I know have a directory named OOO330_m20_native_packed-1_en-US.9567 that contains various things. I've had a look around on the internet to try and find a solution and tried various things. I thought it might be something to do with not having the latest java installed but have done that and now quite stuck. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :-)

There is no "Ubuntu 10" so I'll assume you're using 10.04 or 10.10.

You can easily install OpenOffice with a couple of mouse clicks in Ubuntu Software Center, or if you prefer the Terminal:

Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openoffice.org
