trouble installing mysql

Hi,

I am trying to install MySQL on a SuSE 9.0 laptop for testing purposes. I downloaded what I think is the right version (mysql-standard-4.1.13-pc-linux-gnu-i686).

I extracted the zipped file and I am now trying to run the configure command. However I get an error "bash: configure: command not found"

This is the first time I try to install My SQL.

Please help, thanks.

Is there a file called "configure" in the folder you just unzipped? (i.e. what do you see when you change to the top level folder and type "ls"?)

Are you running the command as "configure" or "./configure"? (you should be doing the latter)

Novell has put together a very helpful LAMP tutorial that covers MySQL. It was written for Suse 9.1, but I believe it should probably work with Suse 9.0 as well. Good luck with it -- J.W.
