trouble installing, libgphoto2

I tried to install the libgphoto2 and I stumbled on the first step.
Trying to run the configure script gave the following error message.

bash: ./configure: /bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission denied

I use Red Hat 9.0 on p3 and haven't seen this error message before.

can somebody tell me what this means?
