Trouble installing applications

A newbie here. Just installed Fedora Core 5. My first intro to Linux. Issue number 1: How do I install 3rd party apps? Trying to install Real player in Terminal with the command "./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin" but get the following error message; "error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file" I'm sure it's something as simple as being in the wrong directory. Where should I be?

Also, any recommendations for new users guides.
