trouble getting my modem to work


hi I am new to linux and have just loaded
ubuntu on my laptop.
I have a sagem fast 800 modem connected to
wanadoo france on my pc (windows 98)no problems.
but I cannot get the modem to work with ubuntu on
my laptop.
if any body can help!!please keep it simple I am fairly
new to computing.
look forward to any replies.

next time try google it 1st. I type 'sagem fast 800 for linux'. Then saw this:-
