Trouble booting! =(
Hi, yea. I've been trying to get a dual-boot thing set up on my computer, with WinXP on one HD and linux on the other. It works fine, except when I try to boot up linux, it hangs at "Finding module dependencies:", and doesn't go any further. I've tried both Red Hat 9.0, and now Mandrake 9.1, and I get the same error every time.
My system is home built, and is: AMD 1600+ ATHLON XP 1.4 GHZ ASUS NFORCE A7N266-VM MB Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM EIDE HARD DRIVE (WinXP) Maxtor 6Y120L0 120 gig 7200RPM IDE HARD DRIVE (Mandrake Linux) AOPEN CDRW 48x12x50 LITE ON 16X DVD-ROM Integrated AC97and Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC-3), integrated on MB Nvidia Nforce GeFORCE2, integrated on MB Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
the best way to install linux as a 2nd os with xp is to first create a FAT32 partition (while in xp - using Partition Magic or similar program) the size wich you want linux to occupy, and than proceed with linux-install
the thing is only new versions of linux (like RH9.0 and mdk9.1) have support for dual-boot with NTFS disk-formatted os (like xp) and it's not sure to work every time... |
