Angry Trashed LVM partition information - Can I recover it?

Hi There,

I hav e a SuSE 10.s installation with a small boot partition, and then an LVM virtual disk that spans teh remainder of ths disc with boot, and 2 other disks. This LVm contains root, swap & home.

I was installing XP 64 on a dual boot and not only has it rewritten my MBR, it has marked the LVm section of disk 1 as NTFS. This all happened very fast so will only be a "quick format" Is there any wat I can repair the damage done? I'm fairly competant and hopefully can follow any suggestions!

Any advice that can be offered is really appreciated.

Thanks very much

In case it helps the boot partition seems to be untouched and attempts to boot, but complains it can't find the lvm/partition it needs. Does this maan I can recover the original partition layout form the boot partition and somehow put it back together?

First of all you need to find out what's visible to the LVM system: start with
pvscan
vgscan
lvscan

and read this: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO/
