Transparent Console, Embedded in Desktop?

You've all seen the screenshots-- A transparent console, embedded into the desktop. They look damn cool

(1) What software would I need to accomplish it?

(2) Would it be possible to embedd a permanent multi-aterm -tr into the desktop, maybe using the xinitrc file?

(3) What other progs should I consider to enhance the look of my desktop? (I use either fluxbox or xfce4.)

It's not a full console, though...it merely tails files.

I've got a transparent, borderless aterm which is loaded at X startup, and i think it fits nicely into the "damn cool" list. It's not actually "embedded" into the root window, but looks like it is.

Just leave it as plain as possible ;)

thanks! root-tail is what I was looking for

oh - and I agree that simplicity is great..but its too common these days, and looks sterile.
IMO: simplicity & originality & personalization == damn cool
