Trace/breakpoint trap received when running glxgears

I recently installed the ATI drivers for my ATI Radeon 8500 128 MB card. The modules installed just fine, but any OpenGL program will terminate with the message: "Trace/breakpoint trap"

If I run glxgears with `strace -o output.txt glxgears`, glxgears will run just fine.... I've looked through output.txt, but could find nothing of importance (couldn't understand the output) :-/

So, what could be the problem here?

Thanks
