Question Tough exmh/mh question - /etc/aliases file

Hi everybody,
I've scoured the net in hopes that I would find an answer to my question, and haven't found one out there, or on this site yet. I have a user still using exmh which worked fine on his machine up until I upgraded it from FC4 to Fedora 5. I've resolved several smaller issues, but am absolutely stuck on the remaining one:

Nothing he sends to an alias in the /etc/aliases file expands the address properly. For example:

alias: "joe:"

works: "To:"

doesn't work: "To: joe"

This occurs either in exmh, or simply using the command line versions: comp/send

The error I get is from sendmail stating that it couldn't build the address properly. The frustrating thing here is that any other accounts on the machine expand aliases perfectly using the above. I've checked all ".mh*" files etc, so is there anything I'm missing?

I can provide more info if necessary. Thanks for ANY help.

Sorry for the basic question, but did you run 'newaliases' after making the change?

The only change was the upgrade, not the alias file. But yes, I did run newaliases.
