totem doesn't read video-DVD

Bonjour

Using Mandriva 2006, Gnome, Totem, I read audio CD from my combined CD/DVD drive.

However any videoDVD (commercial) is rejected by the drive

Could someone who is able to read suche DVD under the same configuration help me to check my configuration?

thanks

The problem is that the DVDs have been encrypted and you will need dvdcss to decrypt them for playback.

Merci.

Meanwhile I tried a computermade DVD, (I read it previously under mandrake 10. or Win98, I don't remember), and the result is the same.

So I don't think the problem is encrytion.

Moreover I found that the choice of the adequate software to read a disk is made, according to the quality (audio, rom, dvd) of the disk by separate scripts, which mean that the quality of the disk is detected before to run one of these scripts.....so I would appreciate to know which script (or executable file) is launched when something is introduced in the DVD drive....Obviously there is "someware" which recognize audioCD (and then run the audioCD script which call gnome-cd), recognise CDRom (and subsequently have them mounted), and doesn't recognize DVDdisk...and reject it, and this happens befor to call the video-DVD script (whose task is to open totem).

I'm conscious I'll have to cope with encryption prooblems, but it should be later in the process....

Thanks for your advice.

So if I understand this correctly, you can't even mount DVDs, something you should be able to do without decryption software.

Bonjour

Indeed, I can't mount DVD, since they don't stay in the DVD-reader.

However CDs stay in the reader, and automount.

So perhaps the problem is in my fstab? In fact there is no "dvd" mount instructions in this fstab, only "cdrom".....so I'll first investigate about "dvd" mount

Merci

Bonjour

I checked what I've been able on the net, and I thought that the following fstab line should be OK to mount either cdrom either dvdrom on my dvdrom reader (which is recognized as such by Mandriva material listing)

/dev/hdd /mnt/lecteurdvd auto umask=0,user,iocharset=utf8,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0

however whith this line CD only mount, but DVD are rejected. (at least Viceo-DVD, I have no data DVD at hand.

Merci de votre aide.

Bonsoir

I found a data DVD, which is readily mounted......but however not read, apparently because it comes from a Mac and is formatted under hfs+, a system appoarently not allowable in the mount options.

Also, to check again if Totem itself is involved in the rejection of my CD I went to
Applications->Système->Configuration->Matériel->Media amovible and disabled the launching of totem at the insertion of Video-DVD (the disabled command line reads: "/etc/dynamic/user-scripts/video_dvd.script %d" ) but it didn't prevent the DVD reader to reject the Video-DVD

Merci de toute aide
