Totally whacked permissions!

Hi, until yesterday I had full read, write, execute, do pretty much whatever you want with me access to my Windows XP (FAT32) /dev/hda1 partition. I could read write, change add and delete pretty much everything on it, which exactly the way I want it.

However today after waking up and turning on my PC, for no good reason that I can discern all of the permissions on this partition have resorted to root - and not even root has write access to it any more.

Can someone please take a look at my set up and tell me how to enable full 100% unrestricted access to my hda1 FAT32 partition again?

My partitions are set out as follows:

Code:
raid517@linux1:~$ mount
/dev/hda3 on / type reiser4 (rw)
proc on /proc type proc (rw,nodiratime)
/dev/hda7 on /home type reiser4 (rw)
/dev/hda6 on /boot type ext3 (rw)
tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
/dev/hda1 on /mnt/hda1 type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,umask=0222,shortname=mixed,quiet)
none on /sys type sysfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
usbfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw,devmode=0666)
/dev/sda1 on /mnt/sda1 type ntfs (ro,noexec,nosuid,nodev,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=0222)
automount(pid6120) on /mnt/auto type autofs (rw,fd=4,pgrp=6120,minproto=2,maxproto=4)
raid517@linux1:~$

Code:
raid517# ls -al /mnt/hda1

I have zero clue why the permissions have changed like this - as I have altered nothing. Nor it seems am I able to chage permissions by doing /chmod 777 /dev/hda1 as this does not change any permisions at all.

I have tried doing:

Code:
chgrp -R raid517 /mnt/hda1
and

Code:
chown -R raid517 /mnt/hda1/
and also:

Code:
chown -R raid517 /dev/hda1
Code:
chgrp -R raid517 /dev/hda1
What I really must have full access to is my /mnt/hda1/My_Downloads directory - although I would prefer full unrestricted access to the entire partition. (Basically I would like to be able to run riot on that partition - if that is what I chose to do).

My Fstab file is attached below.

for a start try umask=0 in the /dev/hda1 entry of fstab.
You may also add rw, in case ro is the default behavior which i doubt.
then remount the partition.
