Tomcat should be started as root?

Hello,

when I start tomcat to serve my webapp should it be started as root or not?
I tried to start it as a regular user and got permission denied error.

You can just install tomcat in your home directory and start it as a regular user. Just chown the files to the correct user/group and it should work.

Running services as root is a security issue so it is not recommended, but it is ofcourse possible to run as root.
