Question TOMCAT Running! But No Examples!!?

Hello All. I have a tip and then a question- PLEASE DON'T OVERLOOK THE QUESTION AT THE END.

TIP:

Thanks to many helpful posts I have installed and j2sdk and tomcat 4.1.18!

I do have one piece of info that I dug out of the tomcat-docs that may be helpful. On setting the JAVA_HOME and PATH variables:

In RH8 create a file called java.sh in the /etc/profile.d directory and export the variables there:

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/java/
export PATH = $PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
export CLASSPATH=$JAVA_HOME/lib

save it and chmod 755 it.

This allows tomcat to startup at login on my installation. When I was trying to export JAVA_HOME from the command line and then starting tomcat with ./startup.sh from the jakarta-tomcat-4.1.18/bin directory I kept getting a ~'JAVA_HOME environmental variable improperly set' error.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION:

Why am I getting a 404 error on the jsp examples? I made the mistake of moving the directory and I think I broke something. I have put the examples directory in the /webapps/ROOT directory. Is this correct? Can somebody pls copy and paste the original directory structure for me? When I type in http://localhost:8080/examples/jsp/index.html I'm getting a 404 error. I am a newbie and this is day 3 on trying to get Tomcat configured so I can start learning jsp so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

TIA

Trey
