Tomcat Install SuSE 7.3

I have found 20 different "how to's" on this subject and I am quickly becoming a confused

Intel Box SuSE 7.3
Installed jre1.2.2
Downloaded tomcat 4.0.6 & moved to Linux box

I know newer versions exist, but this is what I prefer to start with.

Questions-

1. Do I have to install Java Web Services?
2. Do I have to install Ant.?
3. What file actually installs Tomcat (.exe, .zip, .asc)?

I am looking for a nice basic setup and install just to get tomcat built correctly.

Can any one help please?

1. No.
2. No.
3. Depends on the distro. Under Redhat, it is an RPM. Others must compile from source, after extracting from a tarball.

The best Howto I know of is here:
