Timidity Voices

I have tons of MIDI music, and am extremely glad Timidity works.

Now I have a question. I recall reading somewhere that you could use other voice sets for the instruments. The default set is passable but sounds bad compared to the CD-Quality of soundcard's synth (which is not Linux-compatable).

Where do I get these voices and how do I install them?

hi,
i don't know how timidity comes as it's default
im goint to assume the patches
http://www.stardate.bc.ca/eawpatches/html/default.htm
are what you mean
so if i have that wrong ask back and i can tell you how to use those

you can also use soundfonts like the ones you load into your souncard
(unfortunately for you only in windows) :(

just backup your /usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg
and have it just be one line
soundfont /usr/share/sounds/sf2/Vintage_Dreams_Waves_v2.sf2

you know -- fix path to point to actual sf2 file
i bet you can find a good set of soundfonts on you soundcards windows install cd
the ones you find on the net can be real crap

That's what I was refering to.

Thanks a lot! I found a soundfont that's almost the same as my soundcard's soundfont. :D
