TightVNC -- Greek characters .. ahhhh!!
This is probably a silly question with a simple solution, but I cannot seem to figure it out.
I just spent the last four days installing Gentoo on a new Athlon-XP box. Everything is super-tweaked for my hardware. I am very happy with the results. One minor glitch. I use TightVNC. It's installed and working fine, but ... remote desktops have Greek characters. I cannot read Greek. How do I fix this? If I sit at the actual box everything is fine. It's just on the remote desktops where I get this problem. Help! Thanks, Apollo |
Ok .... problem solved. It was a silly question with a simple solution. The cause: my own stupidity. Perhaps, I should have mentioned I was running KDE. Anyways, I had set the font globally to Symbol. On the actual box this looked fine, but for some reason on the remote desktops I could see the real font. Go figure. So simply changing the font to something normal solved my problem.
BTW, I am running both Redhat and Gentoo boxes now (Gentoo rocks, RH does not). I have never been able to get fonts working properly in the KDE environment. Most of the fonts (including Symbol) appear to be just one standard font. When I was running only RH, I figured it was just some quirk in my setup. However, I'm seeing exactly the same thing with my Gentoo/KDE setup. If you have any suggestions what is going on, please post. (did I mention Gentoo rocks?) Apollo |
