Thunderbird locks up after screen saver or monitor powered down

I just upgraded my Intel system from Fedora 7 to Fedora 8, and now I'm having problems with Thunderbird.

Quite often when the system goes into screen saver mode or puts the monitor to sleep, Thunderbird will become unresponsive after I revive the system. I have compiz enabled and the Thunderbird interface turns all gray and I can't access it.

Sometimes, if I wait a really long time it will eventually recover. Usually, however, I have to kill the application and start it up again.

What can I do to prevent Thunderbird from locking up like this?
