thunderbird fails to start

Hi
I am running RedHat8.0 and GNOME2.0 . I downloaded and extracted thunderbird for Linux in a directory 'thunderbird'. Now when I type:
./thunderbird
I get the error:
(Gecko:8009): Gdk-WARNING **: gdkdrawable-x11.c:787 drawable is not a pixmap or window

How do I start thunderbird Under Linux?
thx

Apparently it's fussy about the gtk2 lib you have installed. You may have to settle for a gtk1 build http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...xft-gnu.tar.gz
