Thunderbird failing to start in ldap user account
Hello friends,
I recently configured my client to log on using my (open)ldap account. Since then I could not get thunderbird started from my ldap account. But if I su to one of the local accounts, it opens. My client is Fedora14. Has anybody got the same problem? Thanks |
any error messages in a console?

Thanks for the immediate response Chris,
I do not get any error message in the console. Neither could find anything in /var/log/messages. But if I start thunderbird as Quote:

Hi Guys,
Here is a 'work around'. I replaced the /usr/lib/thunderbird-3.1/libldap60.so of thunderbird /usr/lib/libldap-2.4.so.2 of openldap. It started thunderbird successfully. But, thunderbird crashes (failing to find a symbol in the new so) when the ldap is queried for an address from thunderbird. This kills the sole purpose of user centralization :(. This seems to be a known bug with thunderbird which seems not to have been fixed and leaves persons like me, who has to work in multiplatform environment where you have to exchange mails with outlook (and thunderbird is the only working candidate to my knowledge), in vain. Anybody with any other idea? Cheers |
Friends,
I have started using Claws mail, which looks to have some good features (I have found plenty of plugins to be used with this application). I am now marking this thread a 'SOLVED'; but please put in your valuable comments with regards to Claws mail or any other better candidate or even a thunderbird fix. Thanks |
Claws mail is simply the best, period.
Kind regards |
Thanks repo.
