Hi Folks,
I need some help in setting multiple users in Thubderbird.
Here's my problem.
I'm runnung Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 on Ubuntu 6.06 and have three user accounts set up (mick, nathan & jack).
I have one mail account with Tiscali(lets call it mick@tiscali.co.uk) and also I have two additional email addresses with tiscali (jack@tiscali.co.uk and nathan@tiscali.co.uk).
What I want to happen is, when I start Thunderbird from my account (mick) it will only download the Emails that are addressed to me (mick@tiscali.co.uk) and the same for jack and nathan
(ie jack@tiscali.co.uk and nathan@tiscali.co.uk respectively). The idea being that we only get the email that's intended for each of us and not everything that is sat there on the server.
Hopefully this will make sense and I would be very grateful for any help.
Hi Jlliagre,
Thanks for your reply.
Here's what I've tried. I've created profiles for each user. So whilst logged in as Jack I deleted the default profile and created a new one "jack". I've done the same thing for Nathan and I've also renamed mine from default to mick. So now each user logon has it's own unique profile. I then went to my webmail and sent an email to each of the kids accounts. I then logged in as me (mick) and started up Thunderbird. Sure enough, two Emails plopped into my inbox. One of them was from me to jack and the other is from me to Nathan (and, of course, neither of them was actually addressed to me). This as you can see is my problem. Emails are dragged in whenever they arrive, irrespective of to whom they are addressed.
I know I don't know the answer to this but here are a few thoughts that might help someone who knows more than I do (not difficult) to come up with an answer.
When you start up Thunderbird, in the top left corner is the "Get Mail" icon. Immediately next to this is a down arrow which, when clicked offers, two options. One is to get all new messages and the other is to get new messages for the user whos profile is being used. If only I could make the second option the only option then I think all would be solved.
The other one I was thinking of is to use some kind of proxy which downloads all Emails to a storage area and passes on the Emails to the relevant profiles (whenever they login next).
Well, as it turns out I can answer my own question (well sort of). I just went to Tiscali's website and create two new email address (one for each of the kids). This appears to have created two new usernames as well. So all I had to do was enter the relevant info in each of their Emails accounts and hey presto, we all only get the Email intended for each of us.
Hopefully this may be of use to others,
Cheers,
Mick.
