Thunderbird can remove old passwords but can't add new ones

So I had to change the password on a mail account.

The password works on webmail just fine.

However I want to use Thunderbird to access the email.

Thunderbird had the wrong password saved under Edit->Preferences->Security->Passwords->Saved Passwords.

I deleted the old one.

Now Thunderbird won't let me add a new one, and won't ask me for a password!

I click the "check mail" button, and it shows a progress bar that never gets anywhere.

It never asks me for a password.

This would be fine if I could force it to accept the new password, but it won't take my input beyond the button click to check mail.

Suggestions are welcome!

The advice here http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3232-thund...-of-an-account suggests that if it doesn't have a valid password it should prompt for one. As that doesn't seem to be happening in your case, maybe the next thing to try is to set up a new account. Probably not the most desirable solution, but should work.

Cheers,
Terry

Well, I took your advice and it looks like an acceptable solution.

Thanks.
