Thunderbird backup

Hi, can anyone clarify two items I find under account settings.

First there is 'server settings' under the account name. Within this there is Local directory. E.g. /home/siawacsh/.thunderbird/2mreyn1l.default/Mail/

The second option is under Local folders:
/home/siawacsh/.thunderbird/2mreyn1l.default/Mail/Local Folders
My question is which one is responsible for backing up mail in case of system failure. Do I backup both?

Can someone provide a brief differentiation of the two directories.
Many thanks in advance.

It depends on how you have thunderbird set up in the account settings. I don't even have the first and my Local Folders only contains trash and outbox. If you have it set up under account settings>copies & folders to place a copy in Local Folders for sending messages, drafts and message archives than this would be the folder to back up.
