Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read the following.
I am hoping to make a PNY brand, Attache model, USB 2.0, 16GB thumb drive boot the Fedora 10 Live ISO image. I have acquired the thumb stick and Fedora 10 is downloaded and sitting on a GNU/Linux Debian 4.0 etch partition, desktop computer. I'm mentioning my desktop distribution because it is within that environment that I encounter the problem.
Unetbootin -a USB thumb drive installation application- will not launch when I double-click on it's unetbootin-linux-307 executable off of Gnome's desktop. No error messages are visibly displayed. It is not launching minimized. I have used the following steps before arriving at this complication.
-The dependencies
syslinux and
p7zip-full were downloaded from the Debian repositories as specified by a
Graphical Installation Using Unetbootin, on the
official Unetbootin wiki page.
-unetbootin-linux-307 was downloaded from the
Unetbootin Webpage and it's execute bit was changed from a terminal using chmod +x and alternatively, later, by Properties->Permissions tab and then checking "Execute." The file belongs to the same non-privileged user account trying to execute it. I have root privileges on this machine if that is needed.
In closing I want to comment that it feels to me as though I'm overlooking something that others breeze past with full comprehension. My knowledge of GNU/Linux is spotty and I appreciate the opportunity to have others look over the steps I've taken, I thank you in advance!
