Thin client management through edubuntu ltsp 14.04?
Hey everyone,
I have set up a thin client lab. The clients are able to boot up through the network, connect to internet and everythings like i wanted. Now, I need to customize client home environment, restrict games, editing menus etc. Also I will need to see which client is logged in, kick the client to the login screen, etc. I read these features are provided by thin client manager. And edubuntu documentation says thin client manager is shipped along. But I m unable find it. It's not even there for download in the software center. Does it have a different name or am i looking for something wrong? Kindly assist. Thanks.

@TB0ne,
I followed your advice and set up latest edubuntu. I google first and then ask questions here. Thin client manager for edubuntu 14.04 is not yet released! Its under development. The links you've posted are solutions for version 8.04 and not for 14.04. What do i do now? Installing a package must not be hard enough. I have very well checked out all the links you posted before firing a question here. All the links you've posted are solutions for older versions. There's no source package for 8.04

Didn't appear so.

First, you didn't bother saying what version you were using in your first post. Second, if you had read the links, you would have seen OTHER links on those pages....following them leads you to information you would need.

And there doesn't need to be. Did you try running the apt-get command, as mentioned in those pages? Did you look under System->Administration->Thin Client Manager? And since you installed the latest version, did you also look on the Edubuntu site, and look at the documentation for LTSP? There's a PDF there that tells you an alternative package name, and how to manage clients via command line.

May be...Its my English which is the problem or you don't understand. How can i not look at obvious places when I've set up a whole working server and booted clients through PXE. It is not just there. Student control panel, thin client manager..its called with many names. Not a single one exists in 14.04 though there are successful forum posts about 12.04 and earlier. And lq is my last resort. I come here only if google doesn't help me understand.

No one here has ANY IDEA what you've done, tried, where you looked, or what your skill level is. We only know WHAT YOU POST. So when we ask if you've tried xxxx, it's because we don't KNOW if you have...this is how a problem is diagnosed, by asking questions.

Again, back to "why can't you manage things via command-line?" And if you really MUST have the GUI manager, download the source for 12.04, and compile it on your machine.

@TB0ne,
Xubuntu 12.04 and everything worked well. I did try compiling the source for 12.04 on 14.04 and it didn't work.
