"Theme does not contain a .themerc...file" after upgrading KDE

I'm using Redhat 8 (originally had the 3.05 version of KDE). After using apt-get to install KDE 3.2.1, I'm no longer able to use any of my themes -- DESPITE having created my OWN theme. I can see the .themerc file RIGHT THERE in my directory, and yet, KThemeMgr doesn't want to play nice anymore...

What are possible causes of this, and if y'all know, possible solutions?

Major bump

I am having the same problem in KDE 3.3 in Debian. I see a bunch of themerc files in the file browser but not when I go to pick one. Any ideas?
