Hello,
Well, as the thread subject implies: Terminals are occasionally blocking the sound from other apps. I really wouldnt know what causes it and even if this is the right subforum to post it. Anyways, read on svp
It doesnt matter what terminal I use nor does it matters which sound app gets blocked, nor what window manager is used. I cant put my finger on the event was causes it. Using different kernels: 2.6.x.x dont help either. I believe when using a 2.4-kernel the problem doesnt arise.
If i play some songs with xmms, and i have fired up a terminal, sooner or later the sound gets blocked. The xmms error is standard and displays sth like "soundcard blocked, see if other programs are blocking it". When I have multiple terminals running, it is just guessing which terminal is blocking it, so I close them on good luck. Hoppa! terminal clicked away, and back is the sound.
I have my soundcard configured so it can handle multiple audiostreams... 'lsof /dev/dsp1' never prints out programs which are using the device.
I use slack10.2 with the latest 2.6.14.4 kernel, latest alsa, 1.0.11rc1. So if one needs some more info, let me know.
So any ideas or suggestions?
