The Gimp /tmp access

I setup Gimp to use /tmp/.gimp-2.0 to use but for some reason it keeps giving errors that either the location or the permissions aren't setup correct.
Well, I got /tmp on it's own partition, but can easily access it as user and create new dirs and write to it. So why can't Gimp use the dir?

Regards

What's the permission of .gimp-2.0 ? Is it even there and why the need to make it hidden? By default gimp will create a directory in its own on the users home directory, why not keep it there where there's probably more space allocated when doing graphic work?
