The Gimp Need Help Blacking Out Green Text

I'm trying to read and understand the documentation for the gimp. Basically, I have some green text that I want to make black. Can someone describe how I would do this using channels.

If the text in question is actually text, and not simply part of a bitmapped image, then you should be able to select the text, and use the text control dialog to select the desired color (black). If the text is merely part of the bitmap, you can select it using any number of methods depending on the size, distinctness, and nature of the surrounding image. Once selected, fill the selection with black. The selection process probably starts with selecting a rectangular area around the text of interest, followed by an intersecting selection-by-color.
