text not displaying correctly in OpenOffice

I have a problem with the menu text not displaying in open office correctly. Instead of file, insert etc being displayed I just get a load of wierd shapes. I have tried reinstalling open office but this has not sorted the problem. How can I fix the problem?

This may be due to using an older version of Java Virtual Machine. I suggest updating JVM.
