Hi, I've just installed 2.6, module-init-tools and that other package that was needed, I've managed to include all the modules I need, I managed to get my system to use uhci_hcd instead of usb_uchi and some other modules which were not in 2.6 anymore, and I managed to get the cd drives to work. (To top it off I installed an extra module for my webcam and made it load at boot. Whee!)
But I have one problem still that just confuses me. When my machine is in text mode at startup it works nice, but after I go into graphical mode when X starts, something happens to text mode! When I press ctrl-alt f1-6 to enter a console the screen becomes almost unreadably dark.
The weird thing is that it works OK with my old kernel.
A related problem is that I can't use any of the higher-resolution text modes that my bios supports. I know that my bios supports them as they work with knoppix and my old kernel. But with 2.6 the screen just becomes 100% black if I try to use them (by putting vga=something in my lilo.conf)
I tried to find out more by putting vga=ask in my lilo.conf, but it looks like my bios doesn't support this (?) since no question appears.
Anyone had similar probles?
(I thought not. It seems I run into problems that are unique to my machine, judging from my googles :-)
Anyone have any idea what may have brought about the change from the earlier kernels to 2.6?
What kind of vga=something are you trying to use.. the normal? vga=719... or framebuffer.. vga=0x346..., modified framebuffer? vga=x346... perhaps even vga=0346...
There's a lot of ways of picking that number, maybe you should try a few more?
