TEXT Function in openoffice calc

I copied a spreadsheet into a spreadsheet I'm working on and one of the cells in the copied data contains a TEXT function.
Quote:
=TEXT(A2,"0000")
This works as expect if I put the number 1 in cell A2 the "0001" is returned in the cell containing this function.

I want to do the same thing again except that I want "001" returned instead of "0001". So I copy the function into a cell and it still works. However, if I change the function in any way it stops working!

For example I copied the function and changed it to read;

Quote:
=TEXT(A12,"000")
All this does is return '=TEXT(A12,"000")'. If I type the 0 back in it still does not work!

Now for something even more strange. I was highlighting the cell contents to paste here and that also broke the formula! I didn't even change the data! I can use "Undo" and it fixes the data.

I'm stumped and I suspect it's a bug and not anything I'm doing wrong.

TEXT function will not evaluate

Installed a newer version of openoffice and the issue persist. The TEXT function simply will not evaluate. I'm stumped.

I tested this with LibreOffice Calc and it works just fine. How are you doing this exactly? I entered the text in column A and the formula in B and all works. If you are trying to use a different cell than the formula references (ie the A1 is cell A1)it will not work as expected. Also if you are trying to use it on the cell you are entereing the data it will not work.

EDIT, I am at work and it even works in Excel 2010

Try this, in cell A1 enter a number, and in B1 enter =TEXT(A1,"000") and hit enter key and it will/should work. You can even enter 2 in cell A2 and drag the formula in B1 down using the little grab box on cell B1 and dragging down.

I had it working with integer values in A2 and the formula in B2 and it worked. I cut and pasted A2 and B2 into A12 and B12 respectively. I then edited the formula in B12 by deleting one of the zero's in the format part of the formula and that is when the TEXT function stopped evaluating. I also noticed that I could highlight the function in B2, then un-highlight it and it would stop evaluating - that was with no actual edits, just highlight and unhighlight!

I was able to get it to work by entering the sample from the help and then editing the sample. Not sure why it started working because I'm sure I had already tried this once before and it did not work.

It is all working now but I can duplicate the issue. I might make a video of this and youtube it.

Cheers,
