Text editor for knoppix 6.0?

I like to run a live distro on the laptop so that it remains 100% wife friendly. When I program in perl I like to use kwrite for my text editor. Whats a substitution that I can run with knoppix, no emacs please. Thanks in advance.

(i.e. it needs to come in source or package usable by knoppix)

I Just booted Knoppix 6 on my spare machine, and there is a couple of options.
If you want a gui text editor you can use Leafpad,or if you prefer a console based editor you can use vim.
Both come pre-installed with Knoppix.

Yeah, I did fail to mention that the default ones wont do. Leafpad doesn't recognize perl script. I specifically want a gui based program that recognizes perl.

Thanks again.

Apparently I wasn't connected to the internet when I tried that earlier. It installed kwrite via they synaptic manager just fine. Thanks.
