If you don't have the LaTeX packages for your distro installed, then install them. I'm afraid I don't know what these are called under SUSE. Anyway, from the command line, if your .tex file is stuff.tex, you run
latex stuff.tex
and then if all goes well, use
dvipdf stuff.dvi,
which will create a stuff.pdf. You may also be able to use the pdflatex command. If you have Kile (or some other LaTeX editor) installed, then you'll be able to produce your PDF from there.

The one-step program to is pdflatex. But of course I don't know the name of the package in your distro in which this program is included. Be aware of the different graphics handling in pdflatex as opposed to ordinary latex.
