Terminal - Xtra Spaces Generated RH 8
 

Have Redhat 8 installed on an Intel machine. Using KDE desktop.

After opening a TERMINAL window, when typing a command, a space is inserted after every letter. I could live with that, but the response also has a space inserted after each letter, makes it difficult to read. Using the veritical scroll bar to scroll backward, and spacing is normal, but a new command repeats the process.

After the install, did not have this problem, so I have inadvertently changed something in a config file or in a .... that's causing this. An example:
r o u t e - n instead of route -n

Searchhed Google and thse forums but found no matching hits. Found one in Google that changed the LANG= in /etc/sysconfig/i18n from "en_US.UTF-8" to "en_US", but this made no difference, so restored the file to its original state.

Try setting the font to one of the monospaced fonts. It sounds like you selected the wrong font.

Sounds reasonable. But, I've tried these items from the in "System Tools" ==> Terminal ==> "Settings" ==>"Configure Konsole" ==> "Session" menu: Font was "Linux". I tried "Default" , "Normal", and "Small" all to no avail (I exited and restarted TERMINAL after each change.

Its probably asking for more trouble by going after the actual directories after having used the KDE GUI for configuring items, but I'm going to browse /usr/lib/X11 to see if I can see something there

Your suggestion about the wrong font seemed too good for it not to be the the solution.

Finally had enough sense to click on the "Font" selection directly instead of going through the "Font" on the "Configure Konsole" menu. Selected a mono-spaced font, and the problem cleared up.

Typical obtuse user.
