Terminal question


when I launch somthin from a terminal(like gkrellm, mozilla mail, etc) a new bash line doesnt appear untill I end the application. what could be the cause of this? and also when I close the terminal the application ends should it do that?

well if you execute a program from the terminal then that is how your terminal will react until you kill the process, if you want to open something from the terminal and still use the same terminal for something else you willl use 'nohup' and an example will be:
nohup gkrellm
and then gkrellm will open and you will still have a prompt without a new line, so when you make the terminal the active window and issue the ctrl-z keystroke it will then put you back to the CLI with the program still running.

If you just want to start the program like you would in dos just type in:

gkrellm &

That will start a command line and give you your prompt back with no problems.
