Terminal password issue

okay so i accidentally deleted the files in bin folder, replaced them with my other drive backups and now when i open terminal and "su" and type my password i get incorrect password. I can login with no issue and ctrl-alt-f2" and root with password with no issues but terminal has the issue.

Any ideas

check the permissions on su it should be root owned and be setuid

-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 33416 Jul 23 23:29 /bin/su

if its not it won't be able to do its function
