Hi

I don't think this is entirely possible - if I am not mistaken, you need some other kind of software to open a remote X-terminal on a Windows system. Normal telnet as far as I know does not have the graphical facilties needed by an X instance to represent itself onscreen on a Windows machine. Also, I am assuming an X-terminal needs to be able to pass data long according to a specific protocol, that Telnet does not support. (Especially not the one supplied with Windows machines).

You might want to google for terms like "windows xterm" or "xwindows emulator" or "xp xwindows" or something similar. I am guessing that there ARE tools available that will allow you to run an X "terminal" on a Windows machine that interfaces to a Linux machine's running X-server.

Why don't you use SSH with X-forwarding? SSH is secure unlike telnet, and it can tunnel X through it. Just get some kind of SSH client (like Putty), which should have an option to enable X forwarding. Also get an X server (like Xming). Then when the X server is running, and you use SSH with X forwarding, and you can start any X applications from the terminal.

If you need the ability to forward the whole desktop environment, then you should use VNC.

hello

Assuming that your linux box has a X instance already running , and from the Window box you have opened a DOS window and from there you are trying to connect to the linux box on RH9 , then you must check the following

1.- You are an allowed user for the Linux box
2.- That your /etc/hosts.allow has the entry ALL:ALL so that anybody in the network
can connect to your box
3.- Telnet service is on on the Linux box

good luck
