Is the computer powered on?
Have you made sure the power cord is properly seated?
The monitor is turned on, yes?
Have you rebooted the computer?

Is the "tata photon USB modem" powered on?
Have you made sure the power cord to the "tata photon USB modem" is properly seated?

Have you rebooted the "tata photon USB modem"?
Are you attempting to use the Internet while currently in Egypt?

1) Turn on computer.
2) Plug in modem.
3) Ensure that the system recognizes the modem by checking the output of "dmesg". Cut and paste the following to be sure;
Code:
for BUSID in $(/sbin/lspci | awk '{ IGNORECASE=1 } /net/ { print $1 }'); do /sbin/lspci -s $BUSID -m; /sbin/lspci -s $BUSID -n; done
You may want to make sure the output for "ifconfig -a" changes (you should have a new device once you have plugged in the USB modem). If this still does not work, try the following websites;
A good LQ thread
This guy's blog post

P.S: Saying "tata photon USB modem" is like saying "car tire" rather than "Huawei EC-1260". We need make and model numbers in order to be truely helpful.

Open a terminal window (like xterm, Konsole, or Gterm), and try that code I posted two months ago.
Code:
for BUSID in $(/sbin/lspci | awk '{ IGNORECASE=1 } /net/ { print $1 }'); do /sbin/lspci -s $BUSID -m; /sbin/lspci -s $BUSID -n; done
