Tarball Repair Software Required

Hi there,

I took a back up the other day before reinstalling dapper and have just tried to restore it to be told its corrupt... However, I can use the demo of "Advanced Tar Repair" in windows and it successfully dry run lists all of the files in the tarball - It's 1.4GB so im hoping theres something in it!

Does anyone know any sneaky ways or means of getting even some of the files back? It's not g/b-zipped or whatnot, just tarred.

I suspect the problem was the tarball was moved across FTP using the wrong binary/ascii setting ... and I didn't happen to check on the otherside (Lesson learnt there).

Any ideas would be most appreciated, and I'll be sending the beer round.

Thank you very much in advance.

Chaz

EXTRACT CORRUPTED TAR FILE

In many case if there is a corrupted tar file,
the following command can be used in an attempt
to extract the file:

% cat [tar-filename] | tar -xvf -

NOTE: Where "-" is the STDOUT
