Tarball Nightmare

Just starting out with tarballs, I tried typing ./configure and it came up with this -

checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
creating target.h - canonical system defines
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... no
checking for gawk... (cached) gawk
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

After this I tried typing make but it just said -

bash: make: command not found

Any ideas? I dont understand what Im doing wrong

You'll need to install "make" and a compiler - "gcc" would be a good choice. Open up Yast, and have a search through the software installation module. If your copy of SuSE only came with one CD, then you'll probably need to run an update (while connected to the net) and then download the RPM's from there.

Cheers,

mj

You don't have your development packages installed.

You need to get the gcc package from Suse.
