Tar problem, goes half way, then makes error

i cant untar this archive, i did it once before, but now i cant do it, and i'm typing the EXACT same commands. but half way through untarring there is an error.

Here is what it said, after the last 2 good files that were untarred.

hlds_l/dmc/events/door/doorhitbottom.sc
hlds_l/dms/events/axeswing.sc
hlds_l/libhlwon.so
tar: hlds_l/libhlwon.so: Wrote only 9728 of 10240 bytes
tar: Skipping to next header
hlds_l/hltv.cfg
tar: hlds_l/hltv.cfg: Wrote only 0 of 10240 bytes
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
hlds_l/ricochet/
tar: hlds_l/ricochet: Cannot mkdir: No space left on device

then it goes on to try and untar some files into the richoceht folder, a folder that doenst exist, since it coudlnt make it. Then after about like 50 files that are trying to get into the ricochet, it stops by saying:

tar: hlds_l/hlds: Wrote only 0 of 10240 bytes
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Please tell me what is wrong, it worked before, but not now. And i have 160 GB of HD space on this dedicated box, so space is no prob

I had this problem before when I wasn't following directions properly, and so it was actually writing to RAM. Tell me, what precisely are you trying to do?
