tar errors
Why am I getting these errors? I would like to use one command to make this easier instead of doing one for each movie because I will be getting more. Do I need a for loop or a while loop to do this?
ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Desktop/a/movies$ ls DSCN0082.MOV DSCN0084.MOV.tar DSCN0088.MOV.tar DSCN0093.MOV.tar DSCN0102.MOV.tar DSCN0082.MOV.tar DSCN0085.MOV.tar DSCN0092.MOV.tar DSCN0102.MOV DSCN0107.MOV.tar ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Desktop/a/movies$ tar -xvf *tar tar: DSCN0084.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0085.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0088.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0092.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0093.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0102.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0107.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Desktop/a/movies$ tar -tvf *tar tar: DSCN0084.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0085.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0088.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0092.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0093.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0102.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: DSCN0107.MOV.tar: Not found in archive tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Desktop/a/movies$ tar -tvf DSCN0082.MOV.tar -rwx------ veronica/veronica 4593630 2006-08-04 11:48:26 DSCN0082.MOV ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Desktop/a/movies$ tar -xvf DSCN0084.MOV.tar DSCN0084.MOV ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Desktop/a/movies$ |
You can't extract multiple tar or tar gzipped files using wildcards (well maybe there is a way). Do something like
Code:
$for i in `ls`; do tar xvf "$i"; done |
Try
Code:
tar -xf <filename>.tar |
Thanks for the for loop bash code. That worked great, and I learned a little bit. XavierP, read my first post again.
