TAR Archive file - need relative path

Currently ftp'ing tar archive file to another server. Via the following command: tar -cvf /u03/app/applmgr/interface/xbc_dump/brkr_stmt.tar /u03/app/applmgr/interface/xbc_dump;

I need to be able to create a relative path in the archive file for use by recipient. Via man, see args -C, however, still not able to create files in tar with relative path...they all begin with /. Also attempted use find . in tar command. Although it did generate some relative paths, not all.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.
